You know, some stories only (really) make sense if you tell them backwards: We all, however indirectly, come from the Roman empire. Rome was built by Romulus and Remus, which, in turn, are said to be sons of Aeneas. So, basically, we are the far-removed descendants of the idiots who let the horse in.

On the other hand, if Rome wouldn't have risen to power the germanic tribes would have arrived much earlier in history. The stars wouldn't be named Jupiter and Saturn but "Jürgen" and "Hans-Hermann". Wouldn't that be romantic? "Look, darling, how Brunhilda shines down on us."

But before all that, there was a meeting between Ulysses and a media expert, like this:

"Listen, Ulysses, i am Homer," (takes a last drag from a cigarette, than throws it into Ulysses' garden.) "I will write a story about you. You are the hero and you will go to war with the Trojans. Yes, some mention this business with the apple and beautiful Helen. Well, thats the explanation for the imbeciles. Fact is, they are rich, commercial hub, treasures of the soil. Lets say they piss in our oracles - that's emotionally loaded - and we give the story a certain bend: we kill them all off right in the beginning, so we don't have to deal with them later on.

Then, you sail back with a ship, alone... What? Not possible? Nobody knows, so who cares? And after twenty years of sailing..."

But the story of the Ilias went a little differently, not like planned: the Trojans pulled in the horse with all the greek heroes in it. After all, it was a gift for the gods and it was important. Many said: "We need this horse. We have to have it. It bears great treasures." But one, an artist, came along and said: "Oh! What a wonderful horse! We need to wrap it! I have wrapped things my whole life and wrapping this up too will be a radically new creative idea!"

And so they wrapped the horse in heavy cloth and fixed that with some ropes. When evening came they celebrated and the horse even made some noises. The artist enthused: "Oh! A total work of art! A Gesamtkunstwerk"! But alas, in the following days the interesting noises (some say it was experimental music) became weaker and weaker and finally stopped. Instead some foul odour emanated.

Well, so far my take on the Illias and Odyssee. I hope you enjoyed it.
