Thibault Ukraine Russia Moral Standpoint

There was a time when the list of personal tournaments were over whelming and it got removed.
I think it's time to hide the flags or make a feature called Online by Region.
Players could then select the region they wish to play with and the region they wish to avoid (not block).
It could be selectable by picking something like: Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, etc ...

By having this in the preferences, it would help reduce the politics in the subject forum.
Why must I play with UK people who launder the worlds dictators dirty money thus facilitating the plundering of the third world?
I could also mention the selling of arms to the Sauds, one of the most odious regimes on earth.
Then again I am from the UK. My point is no country is without blood on its hands. This is chess it should be above politics.

Well, I've been doing community projects for communities of Malawi.
I personally know many Russians who are against the war in Ukraine. Why ban all Russians because they were born there and by no choice of their own are ruled by a totalitarian regime. You said yourself you cannot know for certain if there are Russians who support Ukraine, so why the hell do you want to ban them all? That's as idiotic as saying guilty until proven innocent. Please stop posting such ridiculous nonsense.

Yes but why should we circumsize the choices of people because of perceived sensitivities.

If people cant stand seeing flags, why dont add a Feature 'hide flags for me'

Sorry I'm not even going to read by the o.p. Improper to mention the founder's name for a personal soapbox.
Imagine milking a topic that has been discussed in great verbosity already.
I'm one of the Russians that's vehemently against the war. Hence the white-blue-white flag that is banned in Russia. But in general, banning Russians from lichess would be largely symbolic and not do anything to achieve peace. It's like protesting outside of a Russian embassy - there is 0 effect. Only real effect would be for Russians to do something internally to change who is in power.

Is it called "politics" when one country invades other country with full-scale war and numerous atrocities? Was WW2 also purely boring political thing not worth an attention?

On the calls to ban only pro-war russians. Well, there are actually a lot of them on these forums. They openly state their pro-war opinion, carry russian flag in the profile and... play chess. So, it's kinda not working... Maybe banning a flag as a symbol would be more reasonable.
