If you don't have natural genius for chess, work a lot.
The only thing which could help to improve (if you want be a serious player) is working your chess seriously, with some regularity.
Try to join a chess club and play OTB chess, then online chess will become easier :-)
Maybe also go for some beginner book, like The Complete Idiot's Guide to Chess (don't worry about the title - this is a good book !)
when I learned the game (age 7) I was just struck by the simplicity of the game, It was a new challenge as I was way ahead in mathmatics. I had spare time to play chess with my dad whenever he was home. We would always have 1 hour a week lessons from a chessmaster (rated 2300) and then play a game.As I really wanted to retain my titel as the best at school I started looking for chess videos. this maybe made me from 700 rating (dutch KNSB) to about 1000. But when i joined a chess club my rating skyrocketed from 1000 to 1500 and on going
What i am trying to say is that watching lectures is possible but the most inportaint thing is joining a chess club as it can really inprove you game
