Fishing pole trap questionning

Hello. Recently (just now lol), I've played a game where my opponent tried a fishing pole trap ( you sac this poor bishop by opening the h file for the rook to come with the queen and mate) and I've seen that this trap doesn't work everytime.

When does this trap work for the attacking side? and when does it not work?
I play fishing pole trap many times I can tell you this:
If white plays carefuly, and defend it well; it almost never works; but you can have some interesting aggresive positions anyway.
But, normally I play this because white can easily make mistakes and you can get a serious advantatge; (I have won titled players by playing this fishing pole). Playing with Black, it's one easy way to try to take the initiative.
At the same time, if black make mistakes or do not use correctly the white blunders, he will end up in a really bad position.
You will not see it in high level chess because it's like "all in" attack, but I recommend you to play it yourself not only to get some interesting positions but also to learn how to defend properly against this
