OTB Tournaments

@notatskool
Good luck!

OTB is very different from online, so don't expect to perform as well (speaking from experience). Something I did in the weeks prior was play and do tactics online with a real board in front of me and not looking at the screen to get used to the different angle.
Be calm, even after blunders. Especially in longer games its easy for an opponent to get complacent and blunder back. The reverse also applies, if you know you are in a clearly better position, keep your guard up.
Practice with longer games before the tournament as well. Obviously you can't really play a 1-2 hour game online but even trying to slow down with 20+10 or 30+0 is good.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend playing blitz or bullet the night before or the morning of because it makes my brain more hyper I guess, but that may be just me.
Lastly, something I did right before each round was relax by listening to (instrumental) music. Again, this is more personal but I really feel like it helped me get into the right mindset.

Again, don't expect to do as well as your first tournament; take every game as an opportunity to learn, adjusting to OTB takes time.

I played my second tournament two months ago and despite a seriously lacking performance, I can't wait for the next one. The environment is completely different and felt so much more friendly than online.

Good luck, have fun :)
