New Rating Section - Rapid

A new rating system where classical is split into rapid and standard/classical would be great.
Rapid: 8-30 minutes
Standard/Classical: More than 30 minutes.
There is a big difference between rapid and standard. In rapid you may be able to look at a position briefly, but in standard you can actually think about the position. Rapid is basically don't make blunders/let tactics be available, while in classical games are played much more positionally.

There are also people who are good at 45/45 or something similar, but don't want to lose their rating points playing 15/10 or similar games. With rapid, they wouldn't need to worry about that.

Although only 0.1% of games are 30 minutes+, that is only because more games can be played in the time of a single standard game.

Overall, we need to differentiate between players who are good at finding tactics quickly, rather than players who think well given a certain amount of time. Like the difference between blitz and rapid, there is a difference between rapid and classical/standard.
Also if this were to be implemented, the change between systems could be done by using the classical current ratings in both rapid and classical sections, and increasing the RD significantly in both sections.
Isn't rapid time control the one from 10 minutes to 60 minutes?
Well I guess so, but if 1 hour+ was considered standard, I'm not sure how many people would have ratings in that section.
Wouldn't work. Most people, especially at lower ratings, play 1+ hour games in just a few minutes. They really use the time control as a means to end the game with a win in case the other player leaves. So the difference is not substantial.
To use the time control to end the game with a win in case the other player leaves. Wouldn't the same apply with shorter time controls?
Sure. But the point is that differentiating by time control in long games wouldn't mean anything. What you might think are long games aren't very long at all and are over in a mattter of minutes.
Internet chess ratings should use a bell curve. If a player plays quickly, their rating increases slower than if they took their time.
One rating fits all time controls because a computer can calculate each player's individual time immediately. This would separate the OTB ratings from the internet ratings and it would merge all ratings into one. The internet rating would become comparable to whatever median speed a player plays. Often during my slow games I start quickly because I am familiar with an opening, then I start to slow down when in a bad position or wish to create one and I play fast when I am in time trouble (Zeitnot). Obviously, with that behaviour my rating is not a standard slow rating, more of a semi-rapid rating. In Bullets or blitz, the behaviour is still the same but it increases in speed. That is where the bell curve calculation can come into play and reduce the effects of increasing or lowering the rating proportionally. (A single rating, in proportion with the time spent for one player to play their game).
@Hellball I don't find too many people who rush in long games, but in any way people who do play quickly in long games will have their play reflected in their rating as there are certainly many players who do use up the time, who will beat the people who don't use their time.
